About this product.

Design

The SW1800A is a compact powered subwoofer that adds sub-bass to the AX800A compact line array. Its manifolded band-pass design couples the front of both cones for maximum mutual coupling. Small cavities, not one large resonant cavity, improve definition at the lowest end and in the upper bass.

Drivers and sound

Two high-power 18 in (460 mm) drivers use 3 in voice coils on aluminum formers for heat dissipation. Humidity-resistant cones suit outdoor concert touring.

The design gives solid low-end definition and a punchy upper bass, with fast, accurate response. It complements the AX800A at about a 4:1 ratio.

Cabinet

The 15 mm birch plywood enclosure has two 35 mm pole sockets, one on top and one on the side. AX800A elements or ED Series speakers can pole-mount above it at the right height. Heavy-duty wheels, flush handles, stacking recesses and feet make transport and ground stacking easy.

Processing and amplifier

Processing runs on the CORE DSP platform designed by PROEL R&D, using a SHARC DSP. It works at 40-bit, 96 kHz floating point with 24-bit AD/DA converters. Dynamic range exceeds 110 dB.

PRONET software, on a CANBUS network, controls the whole system through the rear etherCON RJ45 connectors. It handles EQ, delay and protection settings, and monitors amplifier status.

Four presets cover offline use: Standard for general use, Infra Sub for very low frequencies or effects, Cardioid for directional bass arrays, and User for custom PRONET settings.

A DA Series Class D power module with a digitally controlled switch-mode power supply drives the system. Its variable switching frequency gives clear sound at every frequency, strong low-level dynamics and very low distortion at full power. Efficiency exceeds 90% in a compact, lightweight module.

The amplifier delivers 1,000 W to each driver. Balanced 3-pin XLR input and link connectors and a ground lift switch are provided.
