Overview and transducers

The AX800A combines strong sound quality with flexibility and ease of use in a sculpted molded enclosure. It suits indoor and outdoor live sound and many fixed installations. Pair it with the dual 18" SW1800A subwoofer at a recommended 4:1 ratio for full low end.

A low-distortion titanium compression driver with an edgewound voice coil handles the highs, loaded by an acoustic transmission line waveguide. Its very light diaphragm resonates outside the pass band, allowing a 900 Hz crossover point.

Two 8" woofers with very light cones give fast bass and mid-bass response. An aerodynamic transmission line loads them for clean mid-bass and natural cardioid behavior, reduces enclosure resonances, and helps vent the amplifier.

System design and construction

The symmetrical woofer-tweeter-woofer layout and precise woofer spacing minimize beaming and interference around the crossover. A polyurethane acoustic filter further reduces midrange beaming.

A constant power, phase-linearized crossover keeps horizontal coverage and the off-axis image very stable. Instruments and voices sound natural, with better depth in the sound image.

The two-part enclosure is made of rigid, internally ribbed polypropylene that eliminates cabinet resonances and forms the transmission line without extra panels. It is strong, light, neutral and resistant to harsh conditions. The amplifier sits between the two rear ducts for extra cooling.

Power and processing

A DA Series Class D module with SMPS delivers 900 W to the woofers and 300 W to the compression driver. Efficiency is above 90%. Inputs and links use balanced XLR connectors with a ground lift switch. Mains connect through a locking Neutrik powerCON, with a link output to more AX800A cabinets.

The CORE DSP platform, designed by Proel R&D, uses a SHARC DSP at 40-bit, 96 kHz floating-point resolution. Its 24-bit AD/DA converters deliver more than 110 dB of dynamic range. PRONET software controls EQ, delay, driver protection and amplifier status over CANBUS through the rear etherCON connectors.

Four presets cover offline use:

• Standard: general use, arrays of up to four cabinets
• Long Throw: longer arrays that need more projection
• Downfill / Single Box: near-field use such as stage lip fills and downfills under larger arrays
• User: custom settings designed in PRONET and recalled offline

Rigging and key features

Built-in flying hardware allows fast rigging from a single flypoint. Two aluminum fast-link front structures pin to the KPTAX800 flybar at the top and to the next cabinet below.

The KPTAX800 flybar supports a column of up to four cabinets from one pickup point. Rear links set inter-cabinet angles from 0° to 7.5° in 0.5° steps.
